Bullion Melt Value Calculator
Convert entered gold or silver gross weight and fineness into fine-metal content, then value that content using a same-currency price per troy ounce that you supply. Every conversion remains visible and auditable.
Enter the item and price reference
Use the product specification or an assay for weight and fineness. This page does not verify either input.

Conversion and value audit
Each row exposes the entered unit conversion, fineness and price arithmetic.
On smaller screens, scroll the table horizontally; the page itself remains contained.

Entered-price sensitivity
The same fine-metal quantity is valued at five fixed multiples of the entered price.
The 75%, 90%, 100%, 110% and 125% rows are mechanical scenarios, not forecasts.

How the Bullion Melt Value Calculator works
Total gross troy ounces = gross grams ÷ 31.1034768
Fine troy ounces = gross troy ounces × fineness percentage ÷ 100
Entered melt value = fine troy ounces × entered price per fine troy ounce
Fineness is applied once to gross metal weight. A product specification that already states fine-metal content should not be discounted by the same fineness again.
Worked example from the audited fixture
One entered silver item weighs 10 troy ounces and is 99.9% fine. It therefore contains 9.99 fine troy ounces, or 310.7237 g of fine silver.
At an entered USD 30 per-troy-ounce price reference, the deterministic melt-value result is 9.99 × USD 30 = USD 299.70. That amount is not a dealer bid, appraisal or guaranteed sale value.
Use and limitations
- Verify whether the product states gross weight, fine weight or both before applying fineness.
- Use troy ounces or SI mass for precious metals; ordinary ounces and troy ounces are different sizes.
- Purity presets are entry aids only and do not verify a hallmark, assay or composition.
- The currency field changes labels only and does not convert a price.
- No live quote, collectible premium, dealer spread, refining loss, fee, tax or sale term is supplied.
- Mechanical scenarios do not forecast price or recommend buying, holding or selling bullion.
Frequently asked questions
- Convert gross weight into troy ounces, multiply by the entered fineness fraction, then multiply fine troy ounces by the entered price per fine troy ounce.
- The calculator accepts grams, kilograms, troy ounces, pennyweight and ordinary avoirdupois ounces. It converts every unit through grams before calculating troy-ounce content.
- No. One troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams, while one ordinary avoirdupois ounce is 28.349523125 grams. Selecting the wrong unit changes the result.
- Enter 99.9%. Millesimal fineness .999 represents 999 parts precious metal per thousand by mass.
- Karat expresses gold content out of 24 parts. For example, 18K corresponds to 75% gold. Use the product’s supported specification rather than assuming a preset applies.
- No. You enter the price per fine troy ounce and must record its metal, currency, source and observation time separately.
- No. Melt value represents entered fine-metal arithmetic only. Rarity, brand, fabrication, condition and retail premium are outside the calculation.
- No. A real offer can include spread, assay, refining loss, fees, minimum charges, condition and product-specific terms. The output is not an executable bid.
