Pip Difference Calculator
Calculate the signed and absolute pip difference between two forex prices. Choose a conventional non-JPY or JPY pair preset, or enter custom pip and point sizes; every selected unit remains visible and editable.
Enter two prices and choose the unit convention
Both prices must come from the same symbol and the same Bid, Ask, mid or executed-price basis.

How to calculate the difference between two prices in pips
Signed pips = Signed price difference ÷ Selected pip size
Signed points = Signed price difference ÷ Selected point size
A positive signed result means the second entered price is higher. A negative result means it is lower. The absolute result removes that sign and reports only the distance.
The label selector does not alter the formula: exit minus entry, high minus low and Price B minus Price A all use the same second-minus-first order. This makes the result easier to read while keeping the arithmetic auditable.
What the forex pair presets do
The non-JPY preset fills a conventional 0.0001 pip and 0.00001 platform point. The JPY preset fills a conventional 0.01 pip and 0.001 platform point. Both remain visible and editable because broker symbols, CFDs, metals and custom conventions can differ. Choosing Custom applies no hidden unit.
Worked pip-difference example
For an entry of 1.08425 and exit of 1.08680 under the non-JPY preset, the signed price difference is 1.08680 − 1.08425 = +0.00255.
- Signed pips: 0.00255 ÷ 0.0001 = +25.5 pips.
- Signed platform points: 0.00255 ÷ 0.00001 = +255 points.
- Absolute distance: 25.5 pips, regardless of the movement sign.

When to use signed or absolute pip distance
- Signed pips preserve whether the second observation is above or below the first.
- Absolute pips are useful when only the distance between an entry, stop, target, high or low matters.
- Platform points help reconcile a broker terminal display, but a point is not universally the same as a pip or tick.
- Monetary P/L requires trade direction, volume, contract terms, pip value, account currency and costs, so it remains on separate tools.
Assumptions and limits
- No live quote, chart, account, trade or broker specification is connected.
- Presets are conventional starting values, not detected symbol properties or universal broker rules.
- Custom pip and point sizes must be positive; the calculator fails closed when either is missing, zero or invalid.
- Both prices should use the same Bid, Ask, mid or execution basis. Mixing bases can embed spread in the measured distance.
- Tick size can differ from the displayed platform point on some instruments; no separate tick conversion is performed.
- The result contains no pip value, monetary profit or loss, spread cost, position risk, forecast, signal or recommendation.
Frequently asked questions
